If you’ve ever felt frustrated by poor reach in your Facebook group, you’ll want to hear all about this new Facebook Groups update.

In this episode of the Courageous Content Podcast, I share some other updates from summer 2022 which are pretty exciting for business owners.

Here’s what you’ll learn about in this episode:

If you have a free Facebook group – or one you use for paying customers/clients – you may have found yourself feeling frustrated at times.

Because – until recently – you couldn’t guarantee all your group members would see your post. Which was ok for day to day chat but super frustrating if there was something you wanted everyone in your group to see.

In my case, I felt particularly frustrated about reminders about live sessions/classes – as people would often say the post didn’t show up in their feed until after the live session – sometimes even days later.

So I’m a bit late to the party here…but I’ve recently discovered the @everyone function on Facebook which allows you to tag everyone in your group in a specific post.

How to tag everyone in your Facebook group in a post

If you already know about it, do let me know how you’re getting on with it – and whether you’ve had to come up with any ‘workarounds’ to make it work for you. And the best place to connect with me is over on Instagram @janmurray.

And do stick with me as I’ll also share a few more updates you might want to check out.

Like many new features on Facebook – the @everyone feature seems glitchy. I have to post from my PC and then add the @everyone tag from my phone – but it works beautifully. And has been brilliant for increasing engagement in live sessions/classes.

That said, I wouldn’t use it for every post – as it could get annoying for your followers.

The ‘welcome message’ update that could help with group engagement

A few other changes you might want to look at – although do bear in mind that Facebook is testing new features all the time (and things can be added – or even taken away – at any time). But I’m sharing what I know at the time of publication (July 2022).

  • You can customise the look of your group (i.e. colour, font and post backgrounds)
  • You can automate welcome messages to new users (previously you were prompted to welcome them but you still had to do it manually)
  • You can now pin announcements in a ‘featured’ section for even more visibility – so it’s the first thing people see when they navigate to a group

Facebook is also testing adding some new, smaller sub-group engagement options, with Community Chat Channels, audio rooms and topic feeds within groups.

Facebook’s new Community Chat Channels

Facebook Community Chat Channels will enable group members to chat in real-time across both Facebook Groups and Messenger.

If you have a group, do take a look at yours and let me know if you’ve noticed any features/updates and how you are using them. The best place to connect with me is Instagram.
